Urban Mobility in Times of Economic Crisis
The Congresses promoted by ANTP have been notable moments towards assessing and setting policies for the area and the entity itself. For the 17th Congress, the entity has proposed to focus the debate on the city to be built and the urban mobility to be supplied.
The following issues will also be discussed: mobility national policy after the implementation the City Statement in Brazilian Cities, reduction on fares and costs of public transport towards social inclusion, peace in traffic, combating violence and strengthening respect to human rights, permanent funding, quality transport services and environmental sustainability.
The 17th Congress is also intended to be the moment to welcome visitors from different countries who besides presenting their own experiences will have the opportunity to know our good practices, particularly the ones of Curitiba. Furthermore, it will be time for reflection and first and foremost to set compromises for the future, through encouraging efforts towards improvements in public transport by strengthening the authorities responsible for the concession of services and the promotion of safe traffic.
Authorities of the area – mayor and politicians, transport and traffic secretaries, public and private operators, industrialists, consultants, employers and employees union dirigents, students, community leaders, among others – will be meeting in Curitiba for all the activities planned and a wide range of work visits as well.
The 17th Congress, due to the level and representativeness of the participants, is intended to be an opportunity to set new policies towards urban mobility to give support to social development, economic and environmentally sustainable for the Brazilian cities.
